3. Kare-In-Home employees awarded Statewide Home Care Recognition

11/13/2007

The Mississippi Association of Home Care (MAHC) is proud to announce the recipient of one of its four most prestigious awards that were given at its annual awards luncheon and membership meeting on November 13, 2007 at Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond, Mississippi.

Jill Olsen, RN, BSN of Gautier, Mississippi is the winner of the 2007 Rogers/Westbrook Award. Ms. Olsen is a Patient Care Coordinator at Kare-In Home Health in Pascagoula. She has 19 years of home health experience, has served in many home health roles; as a field nurse, clinical coordinator, branch office manager, case manager, patient care coordinator and Clinical director. She has served the MAHC on the Board of Directors as a Director and Board Secretary. She is a past officer of the Mississippi Hospital Association – Home Health and Hospice Society and she has served the District 6 Mississippi Nurses Association as 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Board Member and on the MNA Nominating Committee.

Everyone on the Gulf Coast has a Hurricane Katrina story. Ms. Olsen has her own story which in many ways is no different from many coast residents. She and her family rode out the storm in a home health branch office. Her home was destroyed and she lost everything in the storm, but she put all of her energy and heart into safe-guarding her patients and staff. Armed only with her personal cell phone and very little gasoline, Ms. Olsen went about finding patients and staff and ensuring that everyone was taken care of. Because of her efforts, her home health agency was able to overcome the losses of the storm and begin recovery.

This award was named after two Mississippi home health pioneers, J. Dudley Westbrook and Frederick D. Rogers, Jr., who gave of their time, talents and energy to foster the growth of home health in Mississippi. For over seventeen years, this award has been given annually to individuals who have contributed significantly to the home care industry in Mississippi and who have effectively promoted home health care throughout our state.

Eather Lean Shelby of Pascagoula was awarded the Home Health Aide of the Year. She is an employee with Kare-In-Home Health Services of Pascagoula. She has worked in home health care for over 17 years and is dedicated not only to her patients but to the home care industry as a whole.

The Home Health Aide of the Year award recognizes the value of the home health aide to the home care industry and to the patients that they serve. Home health aides are the backbone of the home health care delivery system and are vital to patient care.

The Mississippi Association for Home Care is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to operating for the benefit of member home health agencies, home health related agencies and the benefit of the public in fostering and maintaining high standards of home health care.

6. Kare-In-Home Health Named to 2006 HomeCare Elite Listing

10/17/2006

Biloxi, MS -- Kare-In-Home Health Services was identified as one of the most successful home care providers in the United States by being named to the inaugural compilation of the HomeCare Elite by Outcome Concept Systems, Inc. This ground breaking review names the top 25 percent of those home care agencies whose performance measures in quality, improvement, and financial performance are the best. Kare-In-Home Health Services achieved further distinction, being named as one of the top 500 agencies nationwide, which places it in the top 10 percent of home care agencies nationally.

To create the list of HomeCare Elite agencies, OCS used publicly available data from Home Health Compare and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports. Three domains of performance were included in the calculation of the score – Quality of Care, Quality Improvement, and Financial Performance.

The Quality of Care measure indexes agencies’ performance in each of the ten public release Home Health Compare measures, representative of care provided in the last half of 2005 and the first half of 2006. The Quality Improvement index is based on changes in the ten outcomes between data released in September of 2005 and that released in September of 2006. The Financial Performance measure represents the agencies’ indexed profit margin from the 2005 CMS Cost Reports.

Each agency’s performance in each of the three domains was compared against performance of other organizations in their states and in the country. The three domains were combined in one overall score. The top 25 percent in each region were identified and added to the national list. Additionally, the top 100 and top 500 agencies in the country, based on overall score, were identified and highlighted for further recognition.

"Caring for the medical needs of our patients in their homes truly is a privilege for us," said Clay Blalack, Executive Director of Kare-In-Home Health Services. "This recognition as one of the top 500 agencies in the nation, indicates that our staff is giving the attention necessary to our patients."
